Plaster Calculator
Estimate plaster areas and materials.
Project & Input Data
An editable user-defined allowance — not a universal engineering requirement.
Engineering Assumptions
- Thickness is uniform across the whole surface.
- The result is a wet plaster volume and is not converted into cement/sand bags without a verified mix design.
- All percentages and inputs are user-defined; the calculation is purely arithmetic and assumes no particular code or specification.
Formula Summary
- Gross area = L × H × faces
- Net area = max(gross − openings, 0)
- Wet volume = net area × thickness
- Total volume = wet volume × (1 + waste%)

Engineering Insight
Thickness dominates the quantity: an extra 5 mm over large areas raises the volume noticeably. Background flatness governs the thickness actually required.
Recommended Action
Survey wall flatness deviation before fixing the thickness, and confirm the design thickness against the specification before procurement.

This calculator is fully usable as it is. Professional adds saved projects, calculation history and PDF/Excel reports; Premium adds the integrated workflows and the BOQ generator.
Estimators and site engineers use this page to convert a plastering area into a wet mortar volume before ordering or pricing. Enter the wall run, height, how many faces are plastered, the openings you deduct, the coat thickness and the waste allowance used on your project.
Method and assumptions
- Gross area = L × H × faces

- Total volume = wet volume × (1 + waste%)

Worked example
A 10.00 m wall, 3.00 m high, plastered on both faces, deducting 4.00 m² of openings, at 20 mm thickness with a 10% waste allowance.
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Net plaster area | 56 m² |
| Base plaster volume | 1.12 m³ |
| Waste allowance | 0.11 m³ |
| Total plaster volume | 1.23 m³ |
These figures are produced by the same calculator engine used on this page.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it convert the volume into cement and sand bags?
- No. It returns the wet plaster volume only. Converting that into cement and sand needs an approved mix design, which the tool deliberately does not assume.
- How are openings handled?
- The opening area you enter is subtracted from the gross area, and the net area is never allowed to fall below zero.
- Can I use different thicknesses per coat?
- The engine applies one uniform thickness across the surface. For a multi-coat build-up, run it once per coat and add the volumes.
- Is any specification or code applied?
- None. Every input, including thickness and waste, is your own project value; the result is plain quantity arithmetic.
